Kindergarten 3 is an important year for our students, as it is the year when they start preparing in earnest for their transition to Primary 1.
Lorna Whiston's K3 programme aims to give students a thorough grounding in the language and literacy skills they will need to succeed in primary school. We use books and stories to engage the children's interest and as a springboard for developing their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Our K3 children enjoy the highly interactive nature of our programmes, and gain a strong foundation in reading, writing and phonics.
The teachers who work with our very young learners have all received training in the Singapore primary school curriculum, and thus they are completely familiar with the local schools' requirements. Our teachers go to great lengths to ensure that each child's individual abilities and needs are taken into consideration.
By the end of our Kindergarten 3 programme, we aim for the students to be able to:
  • speak clearly and in full sentences
  • read and spell a range of high frequency words
  • read age appropriate books with understanding, and be able to predict a simple storyline
  • use phonic sounds and blends to assist with decoding and spelling
  • appreciate stories, retell a story in their own words and sequence the main events of a story
  • listen to others and participate confidently in group work and class discussions
  • write a short story of their own composition comprising at least three or four simple sentences
  • understand and apply basic punctuation conventions
  • use a sufficiently broad vocabulary to be able to express themselves clearly
